THE STORY BEHIND HOCKENHEIM
This German Formula 1 track has been a key factor in the technological development of the sport. One incident in 1994 caused an F1 car (B194) to catch flames during a pit stop while a team member refueled the car. The flames engulfed the car while the driver was still in it. Although the flames lasted for about 3 seconds, the team and driver received minor injuries. This incident caused an investigation that later found a missing filter in the hose used to refuel the car. The team was advised to remove it to save precious seconds during pit stop times. This is one of the major reasons why F1 cars today only refuel at the begging of the race only and prevent this to happen again.
